How to configure edit permissions
Edit permissions give you control over who can make changes to visualizations in your workspace. They're useful if you want to ensure someone can see, but not edit your visualizations. When a user has read-only permissions, they'll be able to access charts and leave comments in the editor, as well as export and retrieve embed codes.
Edit permissions can be customized for any user, regardless of their role in the workspace overall.
Edit permissions are available for everyone, including users on our Free plan. If you're on one of our paid plans, read-only users won't count toward your paid license count. Only users who have edit permissions on the workspace level are counted as licensed users. You can find more information about our pricing options here.
You may find it useful to restrict a users' edit permissions and set them to "read-only" when:
- You need to have your visualizations reviewed internally before pushing the updates to the published versions
- You'd like to bring in an external stakeholder to provide feedback on a particular visualization project
- Someone in your organization should be able to access billing details, but isn't working on visualizations
How to change a user's edit permissions
If you are a workspace admin or manager, you can change the permissions of a user in a workspace. To do so, go to your workspace's Members tab, then select the relevant member. Click on Change role, and then check (or uncheck) the box labeled Can create, edit & delete visualizations in the popup that opens:

Questions you might have
Can read-only users access embed codes and leave comments?
Yes! When a read-only user accesses a visualization, they'll be able to interact with all other members of the workspace within the comment panel, access existing embed codes, and export the visualization in the Publish & Embed Step.

Can read-only users publish visualizations?
No. A user with read-only permissions cannot publish or unpublish a visualization. Only users with edit permissions can do that.
Can read-only users copy visualizations to another workspace?
Yes. Users with read-only permissions can create a copy of a visualization in their own workspace by selecting the visualization in the Archive, then clicking Copy to, and choosing the destination workspace.
Which visualizations can read-only users see?
Read-only users can access all the visualizations in the teams they're in. If you want to limit the number of visualizations they can see, we recommend that you create a new team (e.g. for a specific project). Set their role to "guest" so they can't browse and join your (other) public teams.
How much does a read-only license cost?
Read-only users are fully free of charge. You can invite as many read-only guests, members, managers, or admins as you need without worrying about impacting your organization's subscription.
Can permissions be changed at any time?
Yes! Workspace admins and managers can switch a user's permissions at any time.
I have read-only permissions, but I need to edit a visualization. Who can I talk to about changing my permissions?
You'll want to reach out to an admin or manager in your organization to request your permissions to be changed, as members' permissions are managed by the workspace admins.
